| Club History | Walton Casuals Juniors FC were formed in 2001 after a few parents came together following a weekend football session from Dave Melham. The group of dads wanted to provide their boys with regular competitive football games and formed the U8 Aztecs. Playing in the same colours as the first team, the team featured in the Surrey Primary League and in their first year won a League and Cup double. The original squad consisted of Andrew Westphal, Tom Devine, Tom Gould, Tom Harris, Henry Cook, Nick Stevens, Jack Bailoor, James Lumsden, Harry Cobb, Anthony Watson and Louis Ansell. Each dad initially put in £50 to buy kit and equipment, and pay the required FA fees. After a meeting in the Wellington Pub, they took various roles to manage the team. Chris Westphal and Peter Cobb became coaches, Andy Devine took on the role of treasurer and Paul Stevens became chairman. The team disbanded at U18, but its legacy lived on producing a full England Rugby International, a first class cricketer, several semi-professional cricketers, and three players from the original group progressing to the Walton Casuals’ first team. Nearing the end of Paul Stevens tenure as chairman, the redevelopment of the Waterside Stadium was first proposed and under him a substantial sum was handed over to the seniors to help fund the project. The chairmanship was passed on to Kevin Ingram and Graeme Allen, who remain joint managers of the Vikings, and the duo continued to grow the club successfully.Frank Scannella and Iain Kirkpatrick have been the Chairmen since Kevin and Graeme stood down…with enormous help, it must be said, from Club Secretary and Treasurer Jo Scannella. One of his first actions was to start the Girls’ section of the club, which has grown successfully and seen several girls head into Academies. In recent seasons, he has been actively trying to address our need to offer football to less able children.Frank and Jo have also been heavily involved with the redevelopment project over the past few years and after many ‘ups and downs’ were very happy to see that in September 2017 the promised Sports Hub finally opened. Walton Casuals Juniors FC has grown from a group of 11 boys playing at U8s to a club of around 600 children (and young adults), of all abilities, playing from the ages of 5 to 23. It offers football to girls, boys and the less able and is proud to boast annual subscriptions which are the lowest for miles around for what is offered |
| Club Philosophy | ‘Football for All’, has in recent years become the clarion call of the club and this ethos is strongly embedded into the mind-set of the wonderful group of volunteers without whom there would be no club. They coach, manage, steward, fund-raise and referee. They write reports for matches, they deal with the administration from the Leagues and they provide a safe environment where all children from all backgrounds can strive to achieve in football or simply have fun playing it |
