ASSISTANT REFEREES APPOINTED BY CLUBS
We expect competent adults to be appointed to run the lines as Assistant Referees. Substitutes cannot act as Assistant Referees.
Referees should brief Assistant Referees on their expectations during a match with particular regard to offside.
If a Club presents a Player as an Assistant, Referees have been instructed to ONLY take “ball in and out of play” decisions from that Assistant and the Referee will become the sole judge of all other decisions regarding free kicks and offside. It is therefore incumbent on Clubs to find non-playing Assistants.
